I was in and out of the SS office pretty quick when I went a couple weeks ago and I got my new card in less than 2 weeks. Of course, I've since lost our marriage certificate so I have to get a new one of those before I can go to the DMV, etc.

I can call and make an appt, but the damn local number is busy all. the. TIME. I give up. I guess I'll just have to suck it up and go in. I'm going to act really, really stupid and just pretend I didn't know I had to drop my old married name when I changed it. Dumber people than that have to pass through there every day. I can feel stupid for an hour or so. I'm not above it. Smile

I'm sorry Vogt, that sucks Sad. Have you thought about applying for positions that would allow you to work remotely?

Bec, I vote for playing dumb.

Listen to Missy and lpstl, they're wise.

I went in to SS all friendly, with my forms all filled out. The person who "helped" me couldn't have hated me more for it.

You should also walk in with a dirty shirt that has tweety bird on it. Can you borrow a baby to bring with you?

Cough a lot. I love that advice. Smile

Cew - no, we won't move. Living where we live is more important (we have a small farm, and H is a partner in his family's farming business, so we need to stay in the country. And it's important to us to raise our kids outside the city.) The reason we ended up here in the first place though was with the intention that I would eventually quit working and stay at home, so only one of us would be commuting. H doesn't mind the commute, he's been doing it for like 10 years. Silly boy.

fuck hair

Cew, thank you once again to adding to my already sophisticated and eloquent vocabulary. I'm going to try and use fuck hair in a sentence tonight with Pete and see if I get a funny look. He might be getting used to this game though...

Vogt, when I sat there Monday (longer than both times I was there 2 weeks prior combined), I listened to a baby and a lady coughing, and I was convinced I'd leave with either the pig herp, TB, or someone else's lung on my shirt.

lpstl, "bang it out."

combine them. John is getting quite the earful and education these days. I don't think he realized a group of women could be so... colorful.

LOL, I was fully prepared to go in coughing if I had to (this was when I was still recovering from the herp). Fortuantely, I was in and out within 10 minutes. 11am on a Tuesday apparently isn't too busy in Omaha if anyone wants to come visit me and do it here.

I would actually love to move to NC, but H will have nothing of it. We're in the middle of nowhere for good. Not that I'm complaining, I love our village and our farm. And I don't actually mind commuting when my salary can support the cost to do it.

I can pretend stupid, but I draw the line at dressing badly. Maybe I'll get a recently jilted girl who hates being cheated on, and I'll renew her faith in the chance at real love with my story, and she'll understand how something as tiny and simple (and illegal!) could slip my mind in my newfound joyful life with my love.

Or I'll get some jackass who's lived with him mom for 46 years and hates women. Oh god.

Oh, and Laine, I have been applying for jobs that let me work remotely, but they are few and far between around here. I think because the city is so easy to navigate, it's not hours upon hours of commute time for most people.

Bec, just study up on Star Trek references, and you'll have that guy in the bag.

Take a couple of breath mints in your purse and stuff a kleenex up your sleeve if you happen to get the woman who is older than dirt and slower than molasses. She'll see you as the granddaughter she always wanted.

I love the term fuck hair. Every girl knows exactly what you are talking about when you say it. If they don't, then they are virgins.

My hair always looks messier and better when I have fuck hair. I love it.
My lips also look plumper and fuller after a windy occupation, and DH loves that, so I think what I'm trying to say is I'm a dirty whore but I look good after I act like one. Smile

You know, when we met at that Applebees and I kept thinking "what a hot, dirty whore. I really want to be her friend". But what's funny is that I didn't start thinking that until after you came back from the dudes bathroom. Hmmm.
